What are some of the gotchas on Gift Card processing?

Does the Gift Card redemption receipt show the card balance?

Does the Gift Card receipt print on a purchase? redemption? add value?

I plan on rolling out Gift Card next week.  Anything that I need to look out for would help.

Hi Dave,

The main gotcha that I have seen is not enough time to produce them.  They take a while to get through production.

Most retailers don't print the ending balance on the receipt because they want the customer to go online or call the 800 number.  They don't want the customer to walk in with the receipt and say, "This receipt says I have $25" when they spend that, but don't have the receipt to show it.  I didn't type that well, but I hope you get my meaning.

You can print receipts on filling and redeeming the gift card.

Definitely before you go into production, test one.  The most common tech support issue on gift card has been that the processor hasn't "turned on the gift card" so you get a message similar to "Account not active."

Thanks for the info.

We are currently using Gift Certificates and do not give cash back.  The process is to redeem the Gift Certificate and put the remaining balance on another Gift Certificate.  Our intention is to redeem the Gift Certificate and put the remaining balance on a Gift Card, depending on the amount.  We may just give cash back to deplete our Gift Certificates and start rolling out Gift Cards.

We have tested this new procedure but have received errors stating that the card is not activated.

Hi Dave,

You definitely should first validate with the processor that they have your gift card stuff turned on.  It is also possible that you need an update to your PPMLIC.DAT file, but I would first want to make sure that the gift card is turned on first.

You can email me directly if needed on this, as I can get the PPMLIC.DAT file to you instantly if necessary.

I was told that Paymentech has Gift Cards activated for all of my accounts.  I even received the training Gift Card.

As far as Gift Cards in my PPMLic.dat, I believe they were setup properly.  Your tech dept should have all of my license files.

OK, if you are still experiencing that today, I can have a support tech help you.  Email me the best way to contact you and we'll get on it.
