Hi,

We are considering to upgrading our current RPRO v8 enviroment to v9. Both the mains and client installations in our stores (we have 150+ stores in 12 countries , and about 18 mains). Do anyone here on this forum have any experience with upgrading to V9 on both server and store level. I could appriciate any feedback on

1) Software performance, filtering/sorting large inventories, HW requirements etc. )

2) Any experiences and learnings taken from the upgrade process.

3) Maturity of the V9 software

4) Major bugs/show stoppers in the process or in the software

5) Any experience with silent install with v9?

6) User feedback, how did the store staff adapt? Which kind of training did you do etc.

7) Any steps taken to optimize the Oracle installations in terms of performance?

8) General feedback/recomendations

If anyone have undertaken this process already, I could appriciate your feedback. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Ulrik Balling

Hi, Comments below.

1) I would suggest decent powered PCs for remotes and servers for the mains. PCs 3-4 years old will probably not meet min requirements. Filtering and sorting large inventories will take a while. It is not normally done in v9. V9 uses quick filters, and filtered views instead. I will see what I can do about getting System Requirements uploaded.

2) This can be done gradually, unlike previous upgrades all or none. Data needs to be very clean.

3) V9 for the most part is pretty stable, and Oracle definitely has advantages over v8, and V9 is also 32bit or 64bit system now.

4) Not all functionality is available for V9 that is in v8. Specifically full accounting links and E-Commerce, while they are possible it is not as refined as v8’s. There is currently no bridge tool. If that is required for import or export then it would be a stop.

5. Haven’t used it.

6) If they know the workflow of Retail Pro, it probably won’t be to bad, they are very similar. They will have to be un-trained on sorting the inventory for items.

7) There are several. Your BP can help you here.

8) Get your BP involved, esp. with multi country deployment and data conversion processes, to upgrading. Data going into v9 needs to be perfect and clean.
